Azerbaijani side accesses Armenia of false campaign on captured soldier

State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons took a stance on the reports about Azerbaijani soldier Samir Mammadov captured by Armenian forces on December 24, 2006, the commission told the APA.
The commission states that publication of contradicting reports of Armenian press about Samir Mammadov in Azerbaijani mass media causes rumors.
“Happenings around Samir Mammadov are misleading campaign of Armenia. First they said Samir does not want to write to his family, then chief of the working group of Armenian Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons stated that Samir Mammadov wants to be extradited to a third country. Reports spread that he was brought up in the boarding school, does not recognize his parents and has no permanent residence. Some days ago they said that Azerbaijani captive appealed to Armenian President for staying in Armenia. These statements are a part of dirty provocation and is fact proving that Armenia uses this situation for its political purposes which contradict international, ethic norms.â€
The state committee said that according to international law norms the states at war have to return captives unconditionally.
According to the conventions, a captive can not stay in the country which captured him and used as a means against his country.
“State commission continues its activities for releasing Samir Mammadov and calls on the international organizations to take measures for Armenia’s implementing commitments arising from international norms.†/APA/
