He underlined that the two Presidents have made substantial progress toward the settlement of the conflict.
“The Presidents have had serious negotiations recently. If Ilham Aliyev and Robert Kocharian want to solve most remaining obstacles to an agreement on basic principles, then an agreement may be concluded in 2007,” he said.
Mr.Bryza shared the position of OSCE Chairman-in-Office Miguel Angel Moratinos “The parties have never been so close to the settlement of the conflict”.
“I think so. It will be clarified to what extent the parties are close to the settlement of the conflict after the meeting in St. Petersburg.
But I consider that the parties have much to do. Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to the settlement of the conflict, but it is a difficult process. The two Presidents are close to solve remaining obstacles. They should agree some details, if we achieve this and the Presidents agree to conclude an agreement on basic principles, we can hope that the decision on the settlement of the conflict will be made soon,” the mediator underlined. /APA/
