"After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Azerbaijan restored its state independence," President Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the cultural event dedicated to Independence Day, held in Lachin with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Lachin reports.
The head of state noted that four months after gaining independence, the Armenian state committed genocide against Azerbaijan: “Seven months later, Lachin was subjected to Armenian occupation. Prior to that, the city of Shusha had been occupied. Following these events, Armenia continued its policy of occupation. Hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur regions were forced into displacement. The Azerbaijani state and people never reconciled with this occupation. We were gathering strength.”
