President Ilham Aliyev has signed an Order regarding the measures related to the designation of Shusha as the "Tourism Capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) for 2026,” APA reports.
This designation was made at the 5th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Tourism, held on October 5, 2023, in Ardabil, Islamic Republic of Iran. As the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Shusha’s recognition as the ECO Tourism Capital underscores its profound historical, cultural, and socio-political significance and is expected to contribute meaningfully to enhancing tourism cooperation among ECO member states.
Under the presidential Order, the Cabinet of Ministers is tasked with preparing and implementing an action plan for the official declaration and promotion of Shusha as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2026, as well as addressing other matters arising from the Order.
