The European Azerbaijan Society told APA that entitled The Results and Prospects of the Paris Summit on the Peaceful Resolution of the Conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh the roundtable, held on 28 January 2015, was chaired by French MP Jean-François Mancel.
Over 40 people attended the event, including two former French OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, a representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and the Azerbaijani Ambassador to France, together with many prominent figures from the diplomatic and political world and civil society. Diplomats from the Georgian, Russian and Turkish Embassies were also in attendance.
General background was given about the Paris Summit that took place on 27 October between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, initiated and brokered by French President François Hollande. The two former French OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs then outlined the operations of the OSCE Minsk Group, tasked with establishing a negotiated peace to the Armenian–Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and the history, tangible results and lessons learned over the past decade, during which France has been a Co-Chair. The Azerbaijani Ambassador, Elchin Amirbayov went on to describe the current state of negotiations on conflict resolution.
Many topics were raised during the extensive question-and-answer session that followed. As the 2.5-hour roundtable was drawing to an end, the organisers proposed a new meeting in autumn to focus on discussions around the Resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that will take place alongside the UN General Assembly in September 2015.
