Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. The ongoing talks are an important step towards the implementation of the agreements reached at the recent meetings of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Lavrov made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku July 12.

“I had frank and detailed discussion with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku July 11. The main topic of the discussion was the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” said Russia’s foreign minister.

Lavrov also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan for its contribution to the development of relations with Russia in all spheres.

“At today’s meeting with my Azerbaijani counterpart, we stressed the importance of momentum for the development of partnership in the trade and economic sphere. Baku and Moscow will also support these efforts. In addition, we discussed the North-South transport corridor project. In the near future there will be a trilateral meeting of the Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian presidents to mull the North-South project,” he said.
