Azerbaijan’s stance on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is backed by international law, said Azerbaijan’s President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks addressing the opening of a newly built military camp of the Defense Ministry in Pirekeshkul settlement of Absheron district on Jan. 23.

President Aliyev recalled that many influential international organizations adopted numerous decisions and resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The head of state noted that the UN Security Council, the world’s most powerful body, adopted four resolutions that demand unconditional withdrawal of Armenian occupying forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

“If someone has forgotten about the UN resolutions, we can recall them. This is the essence of these resolutions. However, Armenia ignores them and faces no pressure,” the president said.

President Aliyev noted that along with the UN Security Council, other international organizations – the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, the OSCE, the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe passed similar decisions and resolutions.

“These decisions and resolutions also remain on the paper. It is injustice and a flagrant violation of the norms of international law,” the president said. “However, the occupying state still faces no pressure. This is a policy of double standards.”

“Sometimes, the resolutions of the UN Security Council are fulfilled in a single day, but when it comes to Azerbaijan, it takes such a long time – more than 20 years. In this situation, Azerbaijan should and is increasing its power,” President Aliyev added.
