According to him, earlier, the amount of property damage caused by the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories by Armenia was $60 billion. But the recent calculations revealed that the actual amount of the damage is five times more than this number: “Earlier, we did not know how this damage is calculated by the international community. In the recent 5-6 years, we have applied to the International Society of Appraisers under President Ilham Aliyev’s instructions. We have been cooperating with this organization for two years. Up to now, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia has caused more than $300 billion property damage to Azerbaijan. This figure was determined by them. The international law allows Azerbaijan to demand the compensation for this damage any time. If Armenians take a right position, certain concessions may be considered to compensation payment. If they don’t take a constructive position, Azerbaijan will demand this compensation any time.”
The Deputy Prime Minister didn’t rule out amendments to the legislation on the occupied territories: “There are international legal norms, documents and conventions on the evacuation of the occupied territories and payment of property damage. We have already joined all these conventions. The related issues have been included in the Azerbaijani legislation. We have enough laws on the review and solution of social problems of refugees and IDPs. If necessary, we can make annexes and amendments to these laws.”
