Azerbaijan to prevent organizing illegal tourist trips to Nagorno-Karabakh

A. Garayev noted that Azerbaijan during the 99th session of the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations, held in October 2014 in Samarkand, introduced the agenda of the meeting a draft resolution entitled "Preventing the use of conflict zones as a tourist regions and the use of tourism for illegal purposes": " The Council decided at the meeting that the project was presented in the form of advisory by the Committee on Ethics of the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations for inclusion in the agenda of the next session of the 100th. In Samarkand, then were very heated discussions on the issue. This issue was discussed at the 100th session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations, which took place on 28-29 May in the Croatian town of Rovinj. I noted in my speech the importance of the document. The issue has been widely discussed and the text of the decision proposed by the Azerbaijani side was passed with the support of Council members. The decision noted that any tourist activity must be carried out in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Tourism, the relevant ethical principles of the General Assembly and the UN Security Council. This document will enable us to prevent attempts at international exhibitions to offer tours of the Armenians in the occupied Karabakh."

The Minister noted that by the adoption of the document achieved important international advantage to prevent agitation of the Armenian party of tourist opportunities of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in international tourism exhibitions and other events: "The decision is entirely based on the Code of Ethics for Tourism of the global, relevant ethical principles of the General Assembly and the UN Security Council, calls on ensure the safety of tourists and respect for the sovereignty of the country. Azerbaijan will send the decision to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the tourism industry, the organizational structure of the international tourism exhibitions, foreign embassies and diplomatic missions in the Republic of Azerbaijan in foreign countries. To this decision will be added necessary explanatory documents setting out the relevant principles of the Code of Ethics of the global tourism."
