During the meeting the Portuguese FM noted that there are huge opportunities for cooperation especially in the field of tourism between the two countries.
Calling the European Parliament’s recent statement on Azerbaijan unacceptable and biased, Elmar Mammadyarov said that some forces represented in this structure deliberately continue carrying out anti-Azerbaijani and Islamophobic policies.
Mammadyarov spoke of the negotiation process on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, noting that Armenia’s unconstructive position, based on aggression and occupation, hinders progress in the conflict’s solution.
Mammadyarov went on to add that the aggressive policy of Armenia is leading the entire region to the brink of new disasters. “The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be settled within the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in accordance with the UN Security Council’s four resolutions which demand the immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied Azerbaijani lands,” he emphasized.
