The State Committee for Work with Diasporas told APA that the member of the house Gene Wu has submitted to the House of Representatives the resolution on commemoration of the 21st anniversary of Khojaly massacre.
Addressing the event on the 21st anniversary of Khojaly tragedy held by Azerbaijanian American Cultural Alliance in Houston on February 24, Gene Wu expressed his sorrow over the massacre and underlined that in order to prevent such tragedies they should be remembered. The resolution submitted by Gene Wu mentions the war in Nagorno Karabakh in 1988-1994 and the occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories by Armenian armed force accompanied by Russian troops. It also notes that more than 1000 people were killed in this massacre committed by Russian and Armenian troops against civilians, who tried to leave Khojaly during the occupation.
The resolution notes that many human rights organizations condemned this tragedy and several countries and other States of the US turned attention to this tragedy. Resolution #535 adopted by the Texas House of Representatives in 2011 is also among them.
Taking into account all this, member of the Texas House of Representatives Gene Wu calls on his organization to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Khojaly massacre committed in Azerbaijan.
