Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. As regards the continuity of the official position of Lithuania in matters of international relations, it should be noted that our country’s position is expressed in the effective international treaties and remains unchanged, the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs told APA while commenting on the establishment of the friendship group with the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” at the Lithuanian Seimas.

The committee added that being a Parliament of a democratic country, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania ensures the freedom for all parliamentarians to express their views and opinions on various issues: “The Statute of the Seimas allows Members of the Seimas to form ad hoc groups. However, neither statements nor initiatives of any individual Members or groups of several MPs reflect the official position of the Seimas. Notably, a clear distinction should be made between the aforementioned groups and Seimas Groups for Inter-Parliamentary Relations, because their status is regulated by different articles of the Statute of the Seimas. Pursuant to the Statute of the Seimas, the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs considers draft laws and draft legal acts associated with foreign policy and provides conclusions on them.
