MP: Agreement marks beginning of new stage in defense between Azerbaijan and Somalia

"The technical support of Azerbaijan and the sharing of military expertise for strengthening the Somali Armed Forces are envisaged," APA reports.

Arzu Naghiyev, the chairman of the the Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption Committee of the Parliament stated this during the discussion of the draft law on the approval of the "Agreement on cooperation in the fields of defense and the defense industry between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia" at today's session of the Milli Majlis.

The committee chairman mentioned that the defense cooperation agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Somalia on February 12, 2025, in Baku lays the foundation for a strategic partnership in military and defense industry fields between the two countries. "The agreement was signed by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, and the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur."

The agreement covers cooperation in defense and the defense industry, military strategies, operations, and the exchange of experience in the defense industry. It also has the highest level of political support. A ceremony for the exchange of the signed document between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Somalia took place on February 12, 2025, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.

This agreement marks the beginning of a new phase of defense and security cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia and will strengthen the collaboration of both countries at regional and international levels.
