The urgent measures to ensure the reliable protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan's maritime borders and to strengthen the control of regime rules in the Caspian Sea are ongoing, the State Border Service told APA.
It was reported that on August 25 at 21:00, during the observation of the surface of the Caspian Sea by the Coast Guard of the State Border Service, one suspicious person was observed crossing the state border from the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Republic of Azerbaijan and heading towards the coastline of Astara district.
Measures were taken to detain the identified individual, with the coastal surveillance units being informed accordingly and the area along the coastline was closed.
As a result of the activities of the Coast Guard units, an Afghan national, Mahmood Khil Bilal, born on April 24, 1998, who attempted to illegally cross the state border into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was detained.
Operational and investigative measures regarding the case are ongoing.
