Azerbaijan launches criminal case over anti-personnel mine explosion that injured serviceman -UPDATED

A criminal case has been launched by the Kalbajar Military Prosecutor’s Office under Article 29.120.2.12 of the Criminal Code (attempted deliberate murder motivated by national enmity or hatred) in connection with the incident in which serviceman Khudaverdi Sadigov of a military unit of the Ministry of Defense sustained multiple bodily injuries due to the explosion of an anti-personnel mine, the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan told APA.

A preliminary investigation is currently underway.

On May 29, at around 10:10, while engineer-sapper units of the Azerbaijan Army were conducting mine and unexploded ordnance clearance in the direction of Istisu settlement of Kalbajar region, Azerbaijani serviceman Sadigov Khudaverdi Hasan was wounded by an anti-personnel mine planted by Armenians. He sustained an injury to his left leg, the Ministry of Defense told APA.

Immediate first aid was provided, and the serviceman was evacuated to the nearest military hospital for qualified examination and treatment.
