Through increasing efficiency in water supply in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Finance can save up AZN 1.5 billion, said Smita Misra, World Bank senior specialist on water supply and sanitation, APA-Economics reports.

She stated that the Ministry of Finance has invested AZN 8 billion in this sector over the past 10 years. It is estimated that up to AZN 6 billion will be needed for the next decade.

“By increasing productivity, the state budget can save AZN 1.5 billion over the next 10 years. The required amount of subsidies will drop from AZN 6 billion to AZN 4.6 billion. Savings can be achieved through raising tariffs, reducing water losses, and optimizing the workforce,” Smita Misra added.
