Foreign banks may provide loans for Baku metro construction

“Baku Metro” CJSC has held extensive meetings with delegations from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the CJSC told APA-Economics.

The meetings, held as part of a joint mission by the two financial institutions, focused on the expansion and financing of the metro system within the framework of the State Program on the improvement of transport infrastructure for 2025–2030, approved by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan.

Representatives from the Ministries of Digital Development and Transport, Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as relevant agencies, participated in the three-day discussions. The parties reached agreements on technical support, financing mechanisms, procurement procedures, environmental requirements, and other related matters. Concrete steps were defined regarding the preparation of the project concept, the development of technical documents, and tender processes.

In the initial phase, the completion of the construction of the “Darnagul” and “Khojasan” electric depots, as well as the separation of the Green and Red lines, is planned. In the next stages, the continuation of construction on the Green and Purple lines and the building of new stations are envisaged.

As part of the meetings, the delegation inspected ongoing and planned construction sites.

Negotiations on financing metro station construction through international loans are ongoing, and the parties have agreed to intensify cooperation.
