In order to improve water supply in the territories liberated from occupation, the construction of several new water reservoirs is planned, Ilham Guliyev, an official of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that the feasibility studies and design-estimate documents for the Hakarichay and Bargushadchay water reservoirs have already been prepared: “It is planned for the Hakarichay reservoir to have a capacity of 91 million cubic meters, and the Bargushadchay reservoir – 67 million cubic meters. The implementation of these projects will contribute to the provision of irrigation and drinking water in Lachin, Gubadli, Zangilan, and other districts.”
The preparation of feasibility documents for the Sarsang reservoir is also nearing completion: “The reservoir, with a capacity of 565 million cubic meters, will serve the irrigation of a total of 96,000 hectares of land in the districts of Aghdara, Tartar, Aghdam, Barda, Goranboy, and Yevlakh.”
The documents for the “Giz Galasi” (Maiden Tower) reservoir and the 52-kilometer main canal extending from it, as well as for the Tartarchay Right Bank irrigation canal project, are also ready and expected to be implemented soon.
“As a result of these projects, the water supply to tens of thousands of hectares of farmland will be significantly improved,” Ilham Guliyev added.
