Trial of ISIS member caught by State Security Service while preparing terrorist attack on synagogue held in Baku

The next court session on the criminal case of Abdulla Aliyev, accused of preparing for terrorism in Azerbaijan, was held, APA reports.

Indictment

Today, the indictment was announced in the trial held at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Aygun Gurbanova.

Imprisonment for 10 to 20 years or life sentence

The judge then told the defendant that if the charges against him are proven, he could be sentenced to 10 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Defendant Abdulla Aliyev stated that he did not plead guilty in the criminal case: "I do not agree with the charges brought against me. I was in a state of unconsciousness when the crime was committed. I do not plead guilty."

The defendant's lawyer appealed to the court that he would not be able to participate in the trial for a long time due to his health.

Defendant Abdulla Aliyev refused to have a lawyer and a new lawyer was appointed to defend his rights. The lawyer asked the court for time to familiarize himself with the case.

The court granted the lawyer's motion.

The next court hearing will be held on July 14.

Note that Abdulla Aliyev is charged under Articles 28, 214.2.1 (terrorism committed by a group of persons, an organized gang or a criminal association (criminal organization) in advance), 28, 214.2.3 (terrorism committed using firearms and objects used as weapons), 28, 214.2.6 (terrorism committed on the grounds of religious hostility, religious radicalism or religious fanaticism), 218.2 (participation in a criminal association (organization), as well as in a union of organizers, leaders or other representatives of organized groups) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

State Security Service operation

According to information, he was detained by the State Security Service (SSS) while preparing to attack the Jewish synagogue in Baku with a Molotov cocktail.

Attack plan details

According to the indictment, 18-year-old Abdulla Aliyev, who lives in Sumgayit and is affiliated with the terrorist organization "ISIS Khorasan", planned to carry out a terrorist act against the "Baku Mountain Jews Synagogue".

On December 28 last year, he approached the Jewish synagogue by car and prepared to attack the synagogue with a Molotov cocktail and other items and objects that he wanted to use as weapons.

During the operation, items and objects that he wanted to use as weapons were discovered and seized from Abdulla Aliyev's body and car.
