A preparatory hearing has been held in the criminal case involving defendants Akif Gurbanov, Alasgar Mammadli, Ruslan Izzatli, Ramil Babayev, Ali Zeynalov, Mushfiq Jabbarov, Ilkin Amrahov, Farid Ismayilov, and Elmir Abbasov in connection with the "Toplum TV" case, APA reports.
During the session at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Azer Tagiyev, defense lawyers requested that the pre-trial detention not be extended and asked for the return of personal items seized during searches. A separate motion was filed to replace Alasgar Mammadli’s detention with house arrest.
The court denied the motions related to detention.
The judge stated that if any personal belongings were taken during the searches, they would be returned.
The main hearing is scheduled for May 12.
On March 6 of last year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a raid at the office of "Toplum TV" and several other locations.
Akif Gurbanov, Alasgar Ahmadoglu (Mammadli), Ruslan Izzatli, and other employees and affiliates of the III Republic Platform were detained and charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (on preliminary arrangement by group of persons).
Additional charges were later brought under Articles 162-1.1, 192.3.2, 193-1.3.1, 193-1.3.2, 206.4, and 213.2.1.
