The trial of Pakistani nationals accused of kidnapping in Baku has concluded, APA reports.
The verdict was delivered today at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, under the chairmanship of Judge Telman Huseynov.
By the court’s verdict, Pakistani nationals Mukhtar Mohsin, Abbas Muhammad, and Muzammil Muhammad, found guilty of kidnapping, robbery, and extortion, were sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Note that they were accused of kidnapping their compatriots in Baku and demanding USD 20,000.
In the case, three Pakistani nationals—Khushnam Ali, Muhammad Riaz Awan, and Shahzad Ali—were recognized as victims.
The Pakistani citizens who reported the incident to the police stated that they had come to Azerbaijan as tourists, their fellow countrymen Mukhtar Mohsin (born 1996), Abbas Muhammad (born 1988), and Muzammil Muhammad (born 1996) greeted them at the airport, took them to a rented apartment, bound their hands and feet with ropes, and beat them, then extorted USD 1,500 and EU 400 from them under threat.
Additionally, they demanded another USD 20,000 for their release.
A criminal case was opened under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan for charges including kidnapping, robbery, and extortion.
