Individuals illegally crossing the territorial waters of Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea have been detained, APA reports, citing the Press Center of the State Border Service.
According to the information, as a result of measures taken by the State Border Service to ensure reliable protection of maritime borders, strengthen control over regime rules in the Caspian Sea, and combat smuggling, a large amount of narcotic substances was prevented from being brought into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On May 29, as a result of the mutual activity of the coastal control units of the State Border Service’s Coast Guard and border vessels in the southern direction of the Caspian Sea, narcotic substances weighing a total of 24 kilograms 270 grams (24 kg 170 grams of marijuana; 100 grams of opium) were detected and seized.
During the comprehensive operational-search measures carried out, a “Layner” type boat equipped with a “Yamaha-55” engine belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran, with a crew of 3 people, was detained while attempting to leave the territorial waters of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the investigation, it was determined that the border violators were citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran – Vahid Layghi Sudif, born in 1984, Khalid Yazdani Nurullah, born in 1985, and Monshinejat Tohid Nariman, born in 1986.
Operational-investigative actions on the case are ongoing.
