A total of 4 mass graves and two individual graves were found in Syrkhavand village of Aghdara district, said Zaur Ismayilov, a member of the Working Group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, in a statement to journalists, APA reports.
He noted that during the First Garabagh War, fierce battles took place in the territory of Aghdara region, and plenty Azerbaijani soldiers were killed in those battles. Taking the remains of most of the fallen soldiers from the battlefield could not be possible. They were registered as missing persons in the State Commission.
He said that according to witnesses, a military truck carrying five soldiers and a nurse was shot here: “These remains were also discovered in that place. It is believed that the remains belong to those people. The remains of a military vehicle were also discovered here. A total of 4 mass graves and two individual graves were found in this area.”
It should be noted that in September of this year, within the coordinates known to the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and the ICRC, bone remains of about 15 people who went missing during the First Garabagh War were discovered as a result of the works carried out in the Syrkhavand village of Aghdara district.
Excavation and exhumation works are ongoing in those areas.
