Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzade – APA. An Austrian MP has been elected president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA).
The election to the post of OSCE PA president was held during the last plenary meeting of the organization’s Tbilisi annual session attended by about 700 representatives from 54 countries.
Austrian Christine Muttonen MP Christine Muttonen was elected OSCE PA President with 86 votes, APA's special correspondent reported from Tbilisi.
Aside from Muttonen, candidates for the presidential post included France’s Alain Neri (26 votes) and Georgia’s George Tsereteli (73 votes).
The voting was conducted twice as the first result of the candidates’ votes was not enough.
The tenure of Ilkka Kanerva (MP, Finland), who was elected OSCE PA President in 2014, expired this year.
At the 25th session of the OSCE PA in Tbilisi, Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by the parliament vice-speaker Bahar Muradova.
