Baku – APA. Azerbaijan and Russia, the two Caucasian countries, are good neighbors and will continue to be friends, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Supreme Religious Council of Caucasian People who attended an international conference titled “Traditions of religious tolerance in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan's model of multiculturalism.”

“I highly appreciate your work as influential religious leaders of the Caucasus. Today, what elderly people say is more important than ever,” said President Aliyev. “Your activity is leading to security and development of Russia’s Caucasian republics, as well as strengthening Azerbaijan-Russia ties.”

The head of state said such meetings are of great importance for Azerbaijan-Russia ties, as well as stability and security in the Caucasus.

He noted that North Caucasus republics and Azerbaijan are linked with a history of friendship, mutual respect and support.

“I’m glad that these relations are continuing in all spheres as well as at the level of religious leaders. This strengthens solidarity between Caucasian countries and is an example for the importance of world Muslims being in solidarity,” added President Aliyev.
