“Germany is now busy dictating its own will to EU countries. This is due to this country’s power within both NATO and the EU. As a result, Germany is carrying out a campaign representing its own interest against different states that have gained independence anew,” MP Siyavush Novruzov, the deputy executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party, told APA.

He noted that for the interests of a contract worth 6 billion dollars signed with Egypt Germany arrested an Al Jazeera reporter but released him soon after mounting pressure from the international community.

“Germany no longer sticks to principles like democracy, human rights, freedom of opinion; it’s just going after interests. After the energy security issue recently emerged, Germany has become harsher and it wants to play the key role in Europe and define by itself routes of energy delivery into Europe. It’s because of this particular reason that some Germany newspapers, circles, and some parties represented in the Bundestag have launched a campaign to discredit Azerbaijan due to conflicting interests. Of course, the Armenian lobby is benefiting from it. They form biased opinion about Azerbaijan. It’s not being done by the German government but some circles there,” he noted.

Political analyst Gabil Huseynli said that such a sudden position of Germany against Azerbaijan causes surprise.

“It’s true that there was such a campaign on the eve of Eurovision song contest in Baku, but it is surprising that now such campaigns are different and more powerful. It seems that Germany, the engine of the EU, wants to see Azerbaijan under its influence, not an independent state. However, Azerbaijan is an independent state and like other states, builds its relations based on mutual interests. It seems Germany doesn’t like Azerbaijan’s independent steps,” Huseynli said, adding that these factors can be a reason for the “attacks” launched by German media outlets against Azerbaijan.

However, this act of Germany does not coincide with the interests of the European Union, because, the EU sees Azerbaijan as one of its significant energy suppliers, the political analyst said. Therefore, an unbridled campaign launched in Germany against Azerbaijan is not understandable on the background of the intention of the EU”, completed Huseynli.
