Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) Ogtay Asadov made a speech at the fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York, speaking about the success and democratic development Azerbaijan has achieved after regaining its independence.

Final declaration of the Conference covers the problems and challenges for the inter-parliamentary cooperation, the problems and challenges for the inter-parliamentary cooperation, fight against terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, as well as improvement of gender equality and elimination poverty, but the problem of aggressive ethnic separatism is not envisaged in the document, the Azerbaijani speaker stressed with regret.

Asadov mentioned that Azerbaijan has suffered from aggressive separatism.

“Armenian armed forces have held 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory under occupation for more than two decades. During the occupation, thousands of civilians lost their lives when Armenian armed forces were carrying out ethnic cleansing in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. More than a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. On behalf of the world community in 1991, the UN Security Council adopted resolutions No.822, 853, 874, and 884 confirming the inviolability of the territorial integrity and internationally-recognized borders of Azerbaijan and demanding Armenian armed forces withdraw from Azerbaijani territory immediately and unconditionally,” he said.

Ogtay Asadov called on the world community to stand in solidarity with Azerbaijan in condemning the violation of international law and to take drastic steps in this regard.
