“The experience on the issue of missing persons should be shared," the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Azerbaijan Thomas Stähli said in his speech at the international conference on "Addressing the problems of missing persons: upholding the right to know for the families," APA reports.
He stated that political will could be formed to open state and military archives for this purpose: “We must learn invaluable lessons from each other’s approaches. The experience shared in tasks such as excavating and exhuming mass graves is very important for missing persons. The families of the missing are directly affected. The voices of the families must reach one another. They must be sure that their participation in the search process is essential.”
Ambassador noted that diplomatic relations need to be intensified to expand activities for the missing persons and their families: "The unresolved problem of missing persons is becoming a major obstacle to lasting peace."
