The Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations will continue cooperation in this format with both Global South and local Azerbaijani NGOs, said Aygun Aliyeva, Executive Director of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations, APA reports.
She said that the agency she represents will continue to support Global South NGOs: "The event was memorable for its engaging discussions. Global South NGOs held discussions on the role of NGOs in combating climate change, a meeting in the D-8 format, as well as the fight against fake news. We are now on the final day of the discussions. Today, bilateral cooperation memorandums were also signed. The Agency signed memorandums of understanding with NGOs from China and Uzbekistan, while other local Azerbaijani NGOs signed with seven foreign NGOs.
The Agency will designate support for the initiatives and ideas of NGOs operating in the Global South as one of the main priorities in its upcoming grant competitions. I believe that the platform created will yield useful results and become the voice of hundreds of millions of people represented in the Global South at the United Nations and other international organizations."
The head of the Agency also touched upon the address of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to the forum participants: "This address should be seen both as a continuation of Azerbaijan's worthy chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, and as a sign of the President's trust and confidence in Azerbaijan’s civil society."
