Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has metwith President of the United Arab Emirates SheikhMohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during her official visit tothe United Arab Emirates, Press and Public Relations Department of Azerbaijani Parliament told APA.
Warmly welcoming the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed AlNahyan expressed confidence that this visit wouldcontribute to the further expansion of the ties between ourparliaments.
Having expressed gratitude for the host's generoushospitality, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova conveyed thegreetings of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyanrequested that his greetings be conveyed to PresidentIlham Aliyev.
It was then remarked as the conversation went onthat there is close co-operation between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates in political, economic and otherareas; the existence of extensive opportunities for thefurther expansion of these ties was mentioned as well.
It was said next that the active political dialogue and consistent contacts between the Heads of State factoredcrucially in the progress of our co-operation. Thepurposeful efforts of the state authorities within thestrategic vectors defined by our Heads of State havegenerated opportunities to develop our relations in variousfields whilst the inter-state bonds have evolved to the levelof strategic partnership thus entering a new phasequalitatively. Besides, it was emphasised that ourcountries and nations have secured considerablesuccesses under the fruitful leadership of the Heads of State.
At the meeting both sides expressed satisfaction withthe strong development of the ties between ourparliaments, which is a key aspect of co-operationbetween our countries. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova remarked that this visit is her first to the United ArabEmirates as Head of the Milli Majlis, and proceeded toshare the details of the discussions held during it. Sheemphasised the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal NationalCouncil of the United Arab Emirates, pointing out that thisdocument will pave the way for further strengthening of theco-operation between the two sides.
The conversation moved onto the successfulcollaboration between our legislatures, bilateral as well asin international parliamentary organisations. Our MPskeep up close contacts and ensure mutual support in suchentities as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, theParliamentary Assembly of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and, inParis, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-AlignedMovement, which was established upon the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan.
As the President of the United Arab Emiratesstressed then, the ties between the parliaments oheld a pride of place in the system of inter-state relationship. Itwas also said that deepening the collaboration in that areawould provide for a further rapprochement of our nations.
The significance of the ties in the humanitariansphere was emphasised as the conversation continued; itwas said that the further development of relations in thefields of education, science and culture, the continuedarrangement of cultural events on a reciprocal basis aswell as connexions between our towns and provinces areall such initiatives that may contribute to our peoplesbecoming closer to each other.
The meeting also included an exchange of views onother issues of mutual interest.
