Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov during his working visit to the Republic of Chile, held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country, Alberto van Klaveren, the President of the Senate of the National Congress, Manuel Jose Ossandon, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Jose Miguel Castro, the chairmen of the Chile-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups in both chambers, Francisco Chauhan and Cosme Mellado, and the members of those groups, as well as with the Assistant to the President of Chile for Foreign Policy Affairs, Carlos Figueroa, APA reports.
During the talks, a detailed exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects of bilateral political, economic, trade, and humanitarian relations between Azerbaijan and Chile, and mutual interest was expressed in activating cooperation. During the meetings held in the parliament, the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms was mutually emphasized. Detailed and constructive exchanges of views were also held with high-ranking Chilean officials on international and regional security issues, including the current situation and challenges of the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process.
During the meetings, attention was drawn to the destruction of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage sites and the landmine problem faced by the country as a result of Armenia's nearly 30-year occupation policy against Azerbaijan. Recalling Chile's experience in the field of demining it was noted that experience sharing and possible cooperation could be carried out within the framework of demining work being conducted in the territories liberated from occupation.
E. Amirbayov also met with the leadership and researchers of the National Academy of Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) under the Ministry of Defense, one of Chile’s leading think tanks, and the “Andres Bello” Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and gave interviews to representatives of local media.
