PABSEC Secretary General: Zangezur corridor must be opened, there is no alternative

The Zangezur Corridor must be opened, there is no alternative to this, said the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Co-operation (PABSEC), Asaf Hajiyev, APA reports.

Asaf Hajiyev noted that the Zangezur Corridor is part of the Black Sea region: “The main principle is cooperation. If there is no Zangezur Corridor, how will cooperation happen?! There are some alternative routes for cooperation. For example, one of them is via Iran. But today, everyone in the economy is looking for cheaper routes. The cheapest route is the Zangezur Corridor. Today, the Zangezur Corridor is primarily needed by Armenia because Azerbaijan has resolved its issues. That’s why I think they will come to their senses, and the Zangezur Corridor will be opened. The Zangezur Corridor must be opened; there is no alternative. There are examples like this in the world. When traveling from Russia to Kaliningrad, they pass through Lithuania, but the train is not inspected. How can it be that I pass from one part of my country to another, and I’m inspected? The passage of Azerbaijani citizens must be without inspection. As for cargo inspection, that can be handled through agreement or negotiations.”
