"Everybody knows what happened in our region from May 13, 2024. It is unacceptable that the French racist police took steps such as violence and harassment against the Kanaks,” said a member of the Parliament of New Caledonia, Isabelle Caoli, during her spreech at the first Congress, held with the participation of leaders of more than 15 political parties and independence movements from Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean and Antilles, which suffered from French colonialism, organized by the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe and supported by the Baku Initiative Group, which is going to last 2 days, APA reports.

“The targets of these steps are mainly young Kanaks. This is not due to the tension of recent times, but due to the impact of events accumulated over the years. Such a situation began to be experienced after the constitutional amendment of France, which meant freezing our right to vote. We strongly objected to it. The French state did not want to answer to our voice. As a result, both chambers of the Parliament supported the project. Touching people's choice and restricting their rights is a step against the existence of the Kanak people. I would like to remind you that at that time 153 members of the French Parliament opposed this project," he said.
