“Azerbaijan has always been committed to international obligations, and at the same time, it is a state that is able to protect its national interests. Our country expects the same approach from its partners and demonstrates a clear position against the attempts of some international organizations to apply these obligations based on double standards,” said the MP of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Soltan Mammadov in his statement to APA.

Soltan Mammadov noted that Frank Schwabe’s opinions, a member of the German Bundestag (Parliament), about Azerbaijan show that this person is biased towards Azerbaijan and cannot comply with the basic norms as a politician.

Putting the MPs, who voted against the Azerbaijani delegation during the PACE discussions, on the list of "undesirable persons", is the right of the state of Azerbaijan: “Any state has the authority to decide whether or not to allow any person into its territory. By questioning this right, politicians like Schwabe actually show that they do not respect the right of states to make independent decisions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that the only reason why PACE observers were not invited not to monitor the elections to the Milli Majlis was due to the fact that the mandate of our delegation was not restored despite the promises made. This is a fairly clear, but at the same time, fair position. There is no special need for the representatives of an organization that refuses to cooperate with us to participate in the event held in our country."

Soltan Mammadov emphasized that it has been proven many times that it is impossible to talk with Azerbaijan using the language of pressure and threats. Azerbaijan is a state that is capable to conduct an independent policy in the region, understands its international obligations and never refuses these obligations, and at the same time clearly knows the boundaries of its national interests. I believe that everyone, regardless of which country or organization they represent, is obliged to treat it with respect. The fact that Azerbaijan ensures its territorial integrity and hosts a very prestigious event like COP29 irritates and worries some countries and politicians, Schwabe. His statements based on insidious and false reasoning seems like to stem from this. However, those people should look for the problem in themselves. Our country has its own strategic line and clear principles, which are quite definite and are based on national interests. Those who expect us to retreat from these principles are wrong!"
