"Armenia is the homeland of Islamophobia," said Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) member Gaya Mammadov at the panel "Preserving Islamic Cultural Heritage in a Changing World," APA reports.
He also drew attention to the anti-Islam resolutions adopted in many countries that are members of the United Nations:
"The restoration of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage remaining in Armenia is very important. We have achieved the adoption of two resolutions by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the UN. Xenophobia is not only unacceptable but also a violation of human rights. It is also appropriate to note that in many UN member states, anti-Islamic resolutions have been adopted. I have also witnessed that Armenia is the homeland of Islamophobia. Azerbaijanis once lived there but were later deported. Nevertheless, the UN has recognized Armenia as a state. There has never been an incident like ours in any Muslim country where an entire people would bedeported from their territory and another state was established there. At the same time, nearly 2 million people have been expelled from Armenia, and more than 500 cemeteries where Azerbaijanis were buried have been destroyed. Through the restoration of our cultural heritage in Armenia, we can also eliminate ethnic inequality. Currently, Armenia, which is a monoethnic state, has achieved this by expelling Azerbaijanis from their historical lands. We want to establish a dialogue with Armenian society. We are waiting for conditions to be created to assess the state of our cultural heritage in Armenia."
