The relations between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Iran are based on deep friendships that date back thousands of years, said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ahead of his visit to Baku during the final coordination and review meeting on common issues between Iran and Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Pezeshkian emphasized the ancient history, cultural, and religious common values between the peoples of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan: "The peoples on both sides of the border have broad mutual interests based on deep interests and friendships that span millennia."

He also touched on the suggestions put forward to resolve some misunderstandings and problems in the relations between the two countries: "The fields and opportunities for mutual cooperation between the two countries and two peoples are vast, deep, and diverse. With the continuation of the process of restoring the existing relations between them, we will witness a significant improvement in this development in a short period of time."

The Iranian President also expressed hope that his visit would create new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries: "Taking into account the consultations and preparatory work carried out, this visit will significantly facilitate and accelerate the process of deepening relations and expanding cooperation between the government, private sector, and state sectors in the fields of economy, trade, culture, tourism, and politics."
