“Today, Muslims are being portrayed as terrorists in France. This further fuels Islamophobia,” French journalist Jean-Michel Brun said at the international event held in Baku titled “Islamophobia in Focus: Exposing Bias and Breaking Stigmas,” during the panel discussion on “Islamophobia in Media and Digital Platforms: How Artificial Intelligence Systems Can Apply and Amplify Islamophobic Ideas,” APA reports.
He stated that the conflicted situation in France’s foreign policy is reflected in its attitudes toward Türkiye, Algeria, and Azerbaijan: "This also feeds hostility and hatred. As a result, one stereotype leads to another. Today in France, Muslims are portrayed as terrorists. This further promotes Islamophobia. For example, the liberation of Karabakh is portrayed as a war against Christians. Simply saying the word "Islamophobia" can create problems for you. The word itself, being equivalent to systemic hostility, has become one of the major problems in France. Certain TV channels even talk about the partnership between Islam and France. For instance, Islamist NGOs are portrayed as terrorists. News programs broadcast Muslims with a low and weak voice and give less coverage to their opinions. French media owners openly reveal their views on Islamophobia. I believe that to solve the problem of Islamophobia, we need to stop the negotiations. We need media to help us understand the identity of Islam and Muslims, and books to comprehend the contributions of Arab civilization to the world. Overall, to combat the tendencies in the French media, we need financial resources. In this direction, documentaries should be made and books should be written. Financial support is necessary for Muslims to take the honorable place they deserve in the world."
