"There is no political prisoner status in France, but this country holds our residents as political prisoners," Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Caledonia Mickael Forrest said at a press conference today, APA reports.

"France calls itself a champion of international rights, yet it commits crimes against the peoples it keeps under colonial rule. The International Front for Liberation is the organization that unites us at the international level. There is no political prisoner status in France, but this country holds our residents as political prisoners. The French authorities practice serious discrimination against our people. During elections in France, the authorities prevent us from exercising our right to vote and oppose it in every way possible. Independence is a right for every people around the world. Our recognition will open a number of opportunities for us. Additionally, I want to emphasize that through this, we will become a subject of international law."
