EU's new Special Representative for South Caucasus set to take office in November

The President of the European Council Charles Michel welcomes the appointment of his Chief Diplomatic Advisor Magdalena Grono as the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, the Office of the EUSR for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Office told APA.

It was stated that the appointment comes at a crucial time in the EU’s relations with the region and as a recognition of Ms Grono’s long-standing experience, extensive knowledge, and contribution to this area: "Ms Grono will take up the EUSR position on 1 November 2024.

Until then, she will continue fulfilling her duties as the European Council President’s Chief Diplomatic Adviser, contributing to setting the course of EU’s foreign policy, including for the South Caucasus.

The continuity of EUSR’s mandate will be assured by the EUSR office until then".

Note that Toivo Klaar previously held this position.
