“The history of Karabakh’s occupation and liberation allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the role that religious architectural monuments play in the memory of any society,” said Demir Muhetdinov, Deputy Chairman of Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia during the panel “Preserving Islamic Cultural Heritage in a Changing World,” APA reports.
“Religiously significant monuments are not only a spiritual unity but also an integral part of culture-oriented diplomacy. I would like to touch upon the fact that Karabakh was once occupied. These facts helped us better understand the important role of historical monuments in the life of a people. At the same time, I want to note that this occupation left significant marks in the historical memory of the people,” he stated.
