On May 13, a thematic conference titled “National Identity, Resistance, and Sovereignty: Perspectives for Corsica” was held in Rome, Italy. The event was co-organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the “Nazione” Movement, which advocates for Corsican independence, the Baku Initiative Group told APA.
The conference was attended by senior and authorized representatives of the Nazione Movement, as well as Tural Ganjaliyev, a member of the Support Group for the People of Corsica in the Azerbaijani parliament.
The event began with a tribute to the Kanaks killed in New Caledonia on May 13, 2024, by French law enforcement and illegal militia groups supported by them. Executive Director of BIG, Abbas Abbasov, stated that the organization supports the legitimate struggle of Kanaks, Corsicans, and other colonized peoples, and outlined the initiatives taken in this regard.
During the conference, BIG and Nazione signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
Under the memorandum, the two parties agreed to collaborate in fighting colonialism and neo-colonialism and in the protection of human rights. To this end, they will launch joint initiatives and take coordinated steps on international platforms.
