The role of non-governmental organizations in the Global South Platform
"Today, alongside traditional problems, we are also witnessing issues such as inequality and the manipulation of public opinion. Today, democracy itself is in crisis," Bobur Bekmurodov, the Chairman of the Committee of the Parliament of Uzbekistan and leader of the "Yuksalish" Movement, said during his speech at the founding conference of the Global South Platform held in Baku, APA reports.
Uzbekistan's experience in civil society development
The speaker also emphasized the necessity for the voices of non-governmental organizations represented in the Global South Platform to be heard at both the Parliamentary and Government levels: "Uzbekistan plays a key role in the formation of an open and fair society. The reforms implemented in our country in recent years have ensured the active participation of civil society in the country’s socio-political life. If we aim for dynamic development, dialogue with civil society is very important. Today, alongside traditional problems, we are also witnessing issues such as inequality and the manipulation of public opinion. Today, democracy itself is in crisis. Several world leaders consistently encourage dialogue among people."
Support for President Ilham Aliyev's global dialogue initiatives
"In this context, I would like to particularly highlight President Ilham Aliyev’s role in promoting dialogue among representatives of the Global South. As he has constantly and rightly emphasized, combating global challenges involves collective initiatives. I believe that by ensuring cooperation between the two platforms, we can attract more representatives of civil society here. It should be noted that the voices of non-governmental organizations represented in the Global South Platform must be heard at both the Parliamentary and Government levels."
