Chinese expert: Azerbaijan is perhaps most important player in Middle Corridor

“Our flagship cooperation program in bilateral relations could be the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor, ” said Kan Jie, an expert from the China Institute of International Studies, in a statement to journalists, APA reports.

He noted that for China, the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor is not just a temporary solution to the Ukraine crisis: “We see it as a long-term strategic alternative to diversify our trade routes with Eurasian and European countries. In the Middle Corridor, Azerbaijan is perhaps the most important player in this initiative.”

Kan Jie stated that during his visit to Azerbaijan, he was at the Port of Baku and was impressed by the modernization standards and the opportunities in the digital supply chain: “Therefore, I believe that amid the global trade war, China and Azerbaijan have more and more opportunities, and there will be more opportunities for cooperation on the development of the Middle Corridor. Also, we do not view the Middle Corridor merely as a trade route or just a corridor.”

The expert emphasized that he sees the Middle Corridor as a future industrial belt or a belt for common development: “In the past two years, we have seen more and more joint programs between China and Azerbaijan in the fields of electric vehicles, electric buses, and green energy. China has many advantages in industrialization and the manufacturing sector, and Azerbaijan and other countries in the region have strategies or initiatives for reindustrialization, green transition, and digital transition. So, I believe that in the future, the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor Initiative can strengthen cooperation between China and other regional countries on industrial potential, especially China's new experiment involving wind power and solar power and electric vehicles..”
