"According to international convention, if a hazardous facility is being built near the border of a country, an official opinion must be obtained from the neighboring state. Unfortunately, in the matter concerning Armenia, no opinion was obtained from Azerbaijan," said Islam Mustafayev, chairman of the "Rüzgar" Public Union, at a press conference regarding the Metsamor NPP in Armenia, APA reports.
According to him, one of the main conditions for ensuring the safety of a nuclear power plant is the correct installation and operation of the equipment and reactors there: "During the Spitak earthquake in Armenia, the relevant station in the country was damaged. At that time, those responsible for the operation and construction of the station had fled the scene. According to international convention, if a hazardous facility is being built near the border of a country, an official opinion must be obtained from the neighboring state. Unfortunately, in the matter concerning Armenia, no opinion was obtained from Azerbaijan."
He stated that in Azerbaijan, alternative energy resources are three times greater than traditional energy resources: "Our regional-level struggle is not against nuclear energy itself, but against the improper use of this type of energy's waste in violation of regulations. As for Armenia, the existing nuclear facility in that country is a bomb placed under the region. I believe that the countries of the region must mobilize their forces to eliminate the radiation danger created by Armenia in the region."
Islam Mustafayev added that Azerbaijan and Türkiye, based on the principle of "One nation - two states," must support each other.
