The Baku Initiative Group strongly condemns the illegal detention of pro-independence activists and their family members by the French police after the successful holding of the General Constituent Assembly of the "Nazione" movement, APA reports.

The Baku Initiative Group stated in this regard.

The statement reads that about 700 people in Corsica founded a new movement "Nazione" on January 28, uniting pro-independence structures and activists and reaffirming their current and future commitment to the struggle against colonial rule, the statement said.

"The methods chosen by the French search and operation team to capture the activists: broken doors, destroyed houses, parents who were thrown to the ground and kept in front of their children at the risk of injury are a shame for a country that presents itself as the home of human rights. Illegal police harassment continues and aims to intimidate the people of Corsica.

Thus,

We strongly condemn the illegal actions of the French law enforcement agencies;

We call on the French authorities to respect the principles of justice and human rights and ensure that such actions do not happen again in the future. The right of the people of Corsica to freedom of assembly and the free expression of their wishes shall be guaranteed by the French Government;

We urge the French government to refrain from pressuring the colonial peoples;

We demand the immediate release of all detainees;

We invite other non-governmental organizations and political movements to join this statement and support the "Nazione" movement," the statement said.
