Baku hosting 1st Congress of Independence Movements from French-colonized territories -PHOTO

The first Congress of Independence Movements from French-colonized territories, Organized by the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe with the support of the Baku Initiative Group, bringing together leaders from more than 15 political parties and independence movements from Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean, and the Antilles islands, all of which are experiencing French colonialism, is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Leaders of a number of political parties and independence movements spoke at the congress.

Jean Jacob Bisep, the chairman of the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe, said in his speech that France is a country where crimes are committed against peoples living under colonial conditions. He said that in order to put an end to these crimes, everyone should mobilize around the world:

“The Baku Initiative Group is an organization created for the liberation of peoples living under colonial conditions. The first conference for the liberation of French colonies was held in 1986, and the second in 1995. We have clear goals in the direction of freedom. This conference will also allow us to get closer to freedom. The political organizations of the former colonies of France are trying to draw attention to the damage caused to us by the mentioned country. France is a country where crimes against colonies are committed. This movement unites us and is of great importance in our coming together. The international community must understand the sufferings of our peoples, or rather peoples living under colonial conditions. We will continue our struggle by strengthening solidarity and showing our will on this difficult path."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Caledonia, Mickael Forest, said that it is possible to discuss and find a solution to the problems through the current congress. He added that in addition to poverty, France has serious problems related to migrants, as well as its internal policy:

“We can find a solution to these problems only with discussions through the congress. Baku Initiative Group gave us such an opportunity. We should evaluate this opportunity extremely well and usefully. Our main political ambitions must be realized. We have to contribute to the construction of the new world order and find our place in this world. We have the right to be fully sovereign from France."

It should be noted that the Baku Initiative Group was established by the participants of the conference "Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism" on July 6, 2023 in Baku within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
