"Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement from 2019 to 2023 has made a significant contribution to strengthening cooperation among Global South NGOs," Nabil Ayad, the director of the United Kingdom-based European Diplomacy Academy said at the founding conference of the Global South Platform held in Baku, APA reports.
Speaking about the importance of the Global South NGO Platform, Nabil Ayad emphasized that this initiative allows representatives of NGOs from various countries to participate in the adoption of laws and the shaping of the international climate agenda: "I am visiting Azerbaijan for the sixth time. Non-governmental organizations are the parties guarding the interests of their countries. The role of these organizations is primarily to ensure the transformation of the Global South. Azerbaijan plays a key role in realizing the transformation of the Global South. We have great potential to address the challenges faced by NGOs in this region. Non-governmental organizations create opportunities for marginalized voices to be heard and for more effective actions to combat climate change. Azerbaijan is the most competent country in terms of achieving sustainable development goals. At the same time, Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement from 2019 to 2023 made a significant contribution to strengthening cooperation among Global South NGOs. The Global South is capable of filling the gaps created alongside sustainable development goals. The potential of NGOs also involves a sense of responsibility at the local level and enables targeted actions. Local NGOs transform global agendas into local realities. The Global South NGO Platform allows representatives of non-governmental organizations to participate in the adoption of laws and the shaping of the international climate agenda. We must accept the challenges ahead and the renewed commitments as they are."
