"Establishing the Global South Platform was one of the key priorities ahead of COP29," said Mukhtar Babayev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues, during the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform, APA reports.
"Under the leadership of our President, COP29 was organized at a high level and achieved successful results. We worked to ensure the active involvement of NGOs, youth, and women’s organizations in implementing the inclusive and transparency priorities. Throughout 2024, we held intensive meetings with civil society both in the country and at UN platforms. We constantly felt the support of NGOs in this process. The first goal of COP29 was to reach an agreement for developed countries to provide financial support to developing countries. We worked to secure $300 billion in donor funding. Now, billions of dollars are flowing from the private sector into the carbon market. The second achievement was the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund, designed to compensate financial losses. The third issue was the establishment of the Global South Platform, which is an extremely important step for further cooperation," he added.
