"Although the United Nations General Assembly adopted a document on granting independence to colonial nations on December 17, 1960, it has not yet been implemented,” said Azerbaijani MP Nizami Safarov during his speech at the conference on "French Neocolonialism Policy in Africa" organized by the Baku Initiative Group APA reports.

According to him, in 2001, although the law on "Criminalization of Slavery" was adopted in France, it was not implemented.

“The modern discourse of decolonization has not yet reached its logical conclusion for the population living in 17 locations around the world. Although the UN General Assembly adopted a document on granting independence to colonial nations on December 17, 1960, it has not yet been implemented. Many years ago, a member of the French Parliament proposed a law to criminalize slave and slavery in this country. Although this law was adopted in 2001, it was not implemented. There are three forms of damages in international law. Two of them belong to states that have been freed from colonial enslavement. International law has a very specific approach here. Later, appeals to the French courts on this issue were unfortunately rejected on the pretext of time-lapse. There is no time limit in international law for cases that significantly violate human rights and are considered crimes. Today, in France and other European countries legacy from African countries remains and no action is taken to return them. In an important event held in Vladivostok in June of this year, the Committee on Combating Colonialism was established. An important event of this committee will be held in November."
