Azerbaijan will assess its membership in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in accordance with changing realities, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev said during a discussion themed "The Rise of the Global South and the West: Azerbaijan's Role, Cooperation, and New Opportunities for Development" at a wide-ranging meeting of the Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Connections of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), APA reports.
The Deputy Minister noted that Azerbaijan is a country that aligns its foreign policy with its national interests: "Azerbaijan also makes decisions regarding membership in international organizations with this in mind.
Specifically, it refrains from expressing a position on any regional organization. Of course, we are already in the process of transitioning from a bipolar world to a multipolar world. In these poles, the role of regional organizations will increase. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is an example of this, its importance and interest in this organization has grown. BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, are also in the same situation. Azerbaijan, of course, will assess its membership in these organizations based on changing realities."
